“A is for Anchovy, a very pretty fish….”

A whimsical alphabet book created by musician and artist Jon Damian.

This imaginative abecedarius offers unexpected and playful associations for each letter—animals, people, places, and objects rendered in Damian’s distinctive drawings. Readers encounter surprises such as chinchillas, ocelots, windmills, and many other curious discoveries along the way. Damian also includes several interactive elements, including search games, a maze, a guessing game, and a crossword puzzle inspired by the alphabet journey. Originally created for the author’s grandson Elijah, this 9 × 12 hardcover picture book invites readers to explore language and images with curiosity and humor.

Jon Damian is a guitarist, composer, artist, writer, and educator.

Author’s Note

I wrote and illustrated Elijah Michael Damian’s Very Special Book of the A B C’s (for Elijah) and also Whatcha’ Doin’ Grampa (for Izzy) during extended stays at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital while being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I am presently 9 in years remission and am now ready to present these books to the world. The writing and illustrating of these books helped me creatively pass my hospital stays, one of which included being quarantined to a hospital room for 38 days during the process of receiving a stem-cell transplant.

This title was produced in a small first printing. A limited number of copies are available.
